Conditions of participation

February 18th, 2009

1.- Thank you for taking the time to participate in my blog. As conversation is the basis of Web 2.0, we have enabled comments in order to promote fluid communication and give you the chance to express your opinions about the topics that I bring up.

2.- Comments must go through certain anti-spam filters. If your comment does not break any of our rules and yet it has not been posted on the blog, please contact me by email to sort it out. Use the email address in my profile.

3.- A key rule is that comments must stick to the subject of each post. We will not tolerate offensive or derogatory comments, nor shall we admit insults or personal attacks. Spam, gratuitous advertising and, generally speaking, any comments that are not relevant to the post will not be taken into consideration. This blog aims to become an open space for conversation, and that can only be achieved by abiding by certain standards of etiquette.

4.- Upper case letters must be used for starting a sentence, proper names and in acronyms. If you are not sure about their usage, please use one of many good English language dictionaries.  On the Internet, writing in upper case letters has the same effect as screaming, so I would like to ask you to use them strictly when necessary.

5.- Unlike SMS, the Internet is not space-restricted. Smooth reading is important. Please avoid spelling mistakes or writing ‘cryptic’ messages full of abbreviations. Following some basic writing rules will be appreciated by all the blog participants: myself and readers/commenters.

6.- If you aim at using blog comments to make personal remarks to me, you’ve chosen the wrong means. Comments should only be used to give opinions about what has been previously discussed in the blog. If you have any questions or comments about any other topics, please send an email to the address in my profile.

7.- For all the reasons I have mentioned in the previous six points, I have implemented a comment moderation system. If your comment follows the guidelines and is easy to read, be sure it will be posted.
